What you should know about Husbands and the Flu

Men are men because they can’t handle illness as well as a woman. It’s true and it’s also true that a man’s character can be determined by how they react in troubled times. This includes how they handle the flu. Though it may seem funny to you and really, it is, a man who whines around and expects to be cared for by his wife when he has the flu will be the first one to dart out the door for the golf course when his wife is sick. Ladies, that’s why you need to pay attention to what your husband needs when he is sick and remember to always dish back what you receive!

The flu is not a laughing matter and women as well as men often lie on their death beds when they have the flu. In fact, sometimes when a case of the flu is particular rough, a death bed sounds better than having the flu. Muscle aches, headaches, sore throat and generally everything else hurts. Women who get the flu are likely to want to be left alone and just have someone bring them Tamiflu and maybe a tall glass of ice cold 7-Up or Sprite whenever possible. These women are content to lie in the bed and fight the flu. In fact, that’s even a luxury because if the woman has children, most of the time moms are not allowed to be sick. Men, on the other hand, want someone at their beckon call.

Men are not content to lie down and be silent. They tend to moan and groan more about the flu. And ladies, if you are married to a man who is stricken with the flu, then look out! The demands and expectations that you will be expected to meet will meet with an all-time high and you will be ready to loose your patients more than once.

The best way to care for a sick spouse or significant other when they have the flu is to allow them to be needy. However, if you find that you can’t go about your daily life because of a sick spouse, then you need to put a halt to it by gently reminding your spouse that you are glad to do anything you can but someone must go to the grocery store and prepare meals for the rest of the household. Then kindly pass them the Tamiflu and a box of Kleenex and bolt for the door!

Cruel as it may seem, most men would do the same thing if the shoe were on the other foot. Ladies, you need to be kind but you also need to realize that you will likely catch the flu if you sit around tending to the ill one who really just needs rest at the moment.

Lysol products need to be brought into the home to spray away airborne germs and to use on door knobs and anything else the person with the flu bug touches. It’s important to keep plenty of fluids around for the sick husband of the home and it is equally important to try and keep yourself well so that you may care for the ailing and the sick man with the flu!
