The Testosterone Revolution for Women Starts Now
Kitty Werner
Testosterone is just as crucial to women's health as it is to men's health. So why are women offered anti-depressants instead of testosterone when they need it? Why is there so much emphasis on men's sexual enjoyment, but not women's? (PRWEB) July 20, 2005 -- Tired of being tired? No interest in sex? Losing stamina? Losing your hair? Packing on the pounds? Chances are your testosterone is too low. While it's routine to do a pap smear, it is not routine to test women’s testosterone levels, yet these are crucial. In her landmark book, The Savvy Woman's Guide to Testosterone, How to Revitalize Your Sexuality, Strength and Stamina, Elizabeth Lee Vliet, M.D. is again challenging routine medical thinking on women's hormones, health and sexuality. You have heard plenty about estrogen, not so much about progesterone, most likely nothing at all about testosterone for women. Yet over 400 bodily functions are controlled by these hormones. Just as men need testosterone, so do women, but not nearly as much. Yet, without testosterone, women suffer from a loss of interest in sex, lose their stamina, lose their hair, pack on the pounds, and lose bone and muscle. Consider a recipe for bread -- would you dare leave out the salt? No! That pinch of salt is vital, it makes the bread rise, and enhances its flavor. The right "pinch" of testosterone helps balance a woman’s hormones, and give her energy, zest and a spark of vitality. In December 2004, the FDA refused to approve a testosterone patch for women aimed at helping women with low sexual desire—women don't need testosterone? Tell that to women who have lost their ovaries, which is like castration for men. Men get Viagra or testosterone if they have sexual problems. All women get is an offer of anti-depressants! These, in turn, actually decrease sex drive. It's time for the U.S. medical establishment to listen to women and their needs. The Savvy Woman's Guide to Testosterone tells women what this crucial hormone testosterone is all about, what it does for women's bodies beyond just enhancing sexual desire, how to get properly tested, what are the available resources for treatment, and more. In clear, factual, easy-to-understand language, Dr. Vliet uses actual case histories to describe how women can achieve optimal hormone balance, zest and vitality by balancing their hormones. If women "get it," why aren’t doctors listening? Why isn’t the medical establishment treating their patients accordingly? Why aren’t doctors learning from their patients? This book addresses these issues. It's time to change the way medicine is practiced on women. The Savvy Woman's Guide to Testosterone is the first salvo. Elizabeth Lee Vliet, M.D. is also the author of It’s My Ovaries, Stupid!, Screaming to be Heard, Hormone Connections Women Suspect and Doctors Ignore, and Women, Weight and Hormones. A physician herself, Dr. Vliet has treated thousands of women in over 20 years of her practice.
