Prevention of the Flu

Everyone wants to tell you the best way to prevent the flu from striking but yet many people don’t know how to protect themselves much less advise the other people of the world who are sometimes ill-fated to end up with the flu. There are countless old remedies that are supposedly guaranteed to help you prevent the flu from setting in. However, which ones will work and which ones won’t seem hard to determine. Just flip a coin and maybe you can decide which flu preventative measures will help you avoid the dreaded flu which strikes when you least expect it and holds you hostage in your home when you least need it!

Many people believe that you can prevent the flu during flu season by getting plenty of rest and exercise as well as following a healthy diet. Still other people feel that you can’t prevent the flu. If you are supposed to get the flu, you will. However, flu prevention is smart, possible and goes back to some basic good health habits that you should have formed long ago.

Good health habits can prevent the flu. Things such as washing your hands, covering your nose and mouth when you cough or sneeze as well as staying home when you are sick will ensure that you don’t catch something else and you don’t share with others what you have. It has also been a theory among some medical professionals that smokers are prone to flu ailments far more often than non-smokers which is a sure-fire sign to stop smoking when the onset of the flu is knocking on your door.

Flu prevention is up to you and you can help yourself and your family by reading what you can on the subject of flu prevention. Stay in as much as possible during flu season because if you know that the flu is spreading you can easily stay in for dinner rather than dining out where many people in the food service industry may be toughing it out at work when they should be home in the bed taking Tamiflu and resting since they have been diagnosed with the flu!

Preventing the flu is sometimes just about common sense and while you may exercise some measure of common sense, not everyone else does. If you are sick, stay home. If Flu season is rampant in your area, stay home so you don’t catch the flu from all those who refuse to lay in bed and get well. Make sure the flu skips you this season and play it smart by getting plenty of rest, drinking lots of fluids and taking vitamins that you know to be especially effective for your immune system.
