Developing a Win-Win Approach to Health Coaching
Melanie Matthews
With disease management programs a wedge against escalating healthcare costs, the health coach is a key player on the team of health professionals working to encourage health plan members to improve their health. Structuring health-coaching programs to improve disease management outcomes is the theme of a March 23, 2005 audio conference sponsored by the Healthcare Intelligence Network (HIN). During “The Role of Health Coaches in Disease and Care Management,” HIN’s panel of experts will describe how health plans and disease management companies can best utilize health coaches, who encourage members to participate in a personalized plan that complements a physician’s prescribed treatment. The health coach works with a team of health professionals and the member to identify barriers, establish goals and identify a plan that will promote lasting health behavior change and reduce health costs over time. This audio conference is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. eastern time on March 23, 2005.
